In a significant meeting on the sidelines of the fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) in Antigua and Barbuda, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with the Rt. Hon. Lord Richard Benyon, the UK’s Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth and Department of Environment. 

The discussions between President Dr Muizzu and Minister of State Benyon covered a broad spectrum of topics aimed at enhancing both bilateral and multilateral cooperation, particularly focusing on the challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

During the meeting, President Muizzu highlighted his administration's unwavering commitment to tackling the climate crisis.

He outlined various initiatives and measures that the Maldives has undertaken to address climate mitigation and adaptation concerns.

Minister of State Lord Benyon commended the Maldives for its proactive leadership and advocacy on behalf of SIDS.

He praised President Dr Muizzu’s clear vision for the nation’s development and prosperity, acknowledging the Maldives' crucial role in international climate discussions.

This engagement underscores the ongoing collaborative efforts between the Maldives and the United Kingdom to address global environmental challenges and support sustainable development for island nations.
