In a significant move to enhance airport operations and accommodate future growth, the Maldives government has decided to relocate the new seaplane terminal to Full Moon Resort.

The announcement was made today by Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed during a press conference marking six months of President Dr. Muizzu's administration.

Minister Saeed explained that the current seaplane terminal will be converted into a jet terminal, while seaplane operations and the terminal itself will be moved to Full Moon Resort.

This relocation is the best course of action to provide more space and expedite airport development efficiently,

stated Minister Saeed

He highlighted that the existing seaplane terminal has also reached its maximum capacity.

Relocating the seaplane terminal will allow the current area to be reclaimed and developed into a domestic airport, thereby facilitating smoother airport development.

This decision aligns with the comprehensive 20-year master plan for Velana International Airport (VIA), announced by President Dr. Muizzu in January.

The multimillion-dollar project is the largest in the history of the Maldives and includes several key developments:

- 25 million passengers

- 100 million liter oil storage facility

- Domestic terminal covering 35000 acres

- 25000 acres cargo terminal

- A separate terminal for jets

- Maintenance repair and overhaul for flights

- Transit hotels

- Convention Center

- Shopping Centers

- Convenient transportation

- Economic Zone Development project

The new plan is expected to significantly enhance the airport's capacity and service quality, positioning the Maldives as a key player in regional and international aviation.
