China to conduct feasibility study for 100-Bed Hospital in Vilimale'
The Government of China has been assigned the task of conducting a feasibility study for the construction of a 100-bed tertiary hospital in Vilimale'.
An exchange of letters took place today between the Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, and the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin, formalizing the commencement of the project.
According to the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, this stage will involve identifying the technical details of the project and preparing the necessary documents for the tender phase.
A special team from China is expected to arrive soon to conduct a survey.
The development of the 100-bed hospital is part of the aid pledged by China during the state visit of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to China.
The Maldivian government aims to complete the hospital within two years.
Currently, the existing Vilimale' hospital has limited facilities, with only 5 emergency beds and 3 consultation rooms.
Due to these constraints, many patients are transferred to Male'.
Vilimale' has a population of approximately 15,000 people, highlighting the need for improved medical infrastructure.
This new hospital is anticipated to significantly enhance healthcare services for the residents of Vilimale' and reduce the need for patient transfers to Male'.
