Bank of Maldives introduces WeChat Pay for merchants, expanding payment options

Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced today the integration of Weixin Pay, commonly known as WeChat Pay, into its overseas markets as a payment method on the bank's Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal network, marking a significant advancement in payment solutions.

This introduction enables merchants to accept QR payments from the widely used Chinese app, WeChat Pay, a service previously only available on the BML Payment Gateway.

Expressing enthusiasm for this innovative payment method, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed commended BML for its initiative.

Similarly, China's Ambassador to Maldives, Wang Lixin, took to social media X as well and emphasized the benefits of WeChat Pay for Chinese tourists and businessmen, highlighting its potential to foster trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Director of Retail, Business, and SME Banking at BML, Moosa Nimal, discussed the rollout of WeChat Pay at merchants located at Velana International Airport's duty-free shopping area.

Furthermore, merchants can leverage BML's Merchant Portal and mPOS APP to accept payments online, enabling them to send payment requests, track transactions, and manage online stores conveniently.
