Today, Parliament granted approval to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's nominees for ambassadors to three countries.

Dr. Fazeel Najeeb is appointed as the Maldivian Ambassador to China, Shiuneen Rasheed as the Maldivian Ambassador to Bangladesh, and Mohamed Thaha as the Maldivian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

All three nominees received unanimous support from Parliament members present for the vote. Shiuneen garnered 35 votes, while Thaha secured 33 votes without any disapprovals.

Dr. Fazeel Najeeb brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as the Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) and as a State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Shiuneen Rasheed currently holds the position of Joint Secretary at the Foreign Ministry.

Her nomination was previously put forth near the end of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's term, though Parliament deferred the appointment citing a protocol against making ambassadorial appointments at the end of a presidential term.

Both Dr. Fazeel and Thaha were contenders in the People's National Congress (PNC) primary for the 20th parliamentary election held on May 21.

Despite their efforts, Dr. Fazeel contested the Fuvahmulah Central constituency seat, and Thaha contested the Holhudhoo constituency seat, neither securing victory.
