President Dr. Muizzu aims for a prosperous future for every worker within 5 years

In his address commemorating International Workers' Day, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu outlined his government's commitment to ensuring a prosperous life for every worker in the Maldives within the next five years.

Emphasizing the invaluable contribution of workers to the nation's development, the President underscored their pivotal role in realizing the country's vision for the future.

Promising a brighter future, President Muizzu unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at empowering workers.

These include measures to facilitate the rejoining of former civil servants, raising the retirement age to 75, and ensuring the inclusion of people with disabilities in society by providing employment opportunities and decent wages.

He further stated that plans are underway to establish services like daycare centers to support families and bolster their prosperity.

In his address, President Dr. Muizzu outlined a comprehensive strategy aimed at revitalizing the Maldivian economy and fostering sustainable growth over the next five years.

Over the next five years, our primary focus will be on bolstering the economy, diversifying our industries, and attracting investments. We aim to expand sectors such as tourism, fishing, and agriculture, while also introducing new services like transshipment and enhancing transportation infrastructure to create more job opportunities and improve wages. Additionally, we're committed to forging free trade agreements with major nations and swiftly implementing them. Initiatives such as introducing e-wallets and payment gateways will facilitate international transactions, enabling Maldivian products and talent to reach global markets. Moreover, the government is working non-stop to ensure the swift implementation of these measures

Addressing the economic challenges inherited upon assuming office, President Muizzu highlighted the government's efforts to settle debts of more than 9 billion owed to private entities and individuals, safeguarding the country's economic stability.

Initiatives to increase salaries and allowances for employees are underway, complemented by comprehensive training programs, housing initiatives, and workplace safety measures.

The government has also identified 22 sectors reserved exclusively for local workers, fostering income-generating opportunities for Maldivians.

Furthermore, stringent measures have been implemented to curb illegal immigration, with swift deportation of undocumented individuals within 48 hours to prevent illicit business activities and safeguard economic opportunities for citizens.

President Dr. Muizzu reassured the nation of the government's steadfast commitment to implementing these initiatives, heralding a future of prosperity and opportunity for Maldivian workers.
