Hassan Zareer appointed as BML's new Chairperson

Hassan Zareer has been named as the new Chairperson of Bank of Maldives (BML), succeeding Yooshau Saeed, who had held the position since 2021.

The decision was made during a meeting with the board of directors following an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on March 25.

Additionally, Ali Faris Mohamed has joined the Board of Directors.

Zareer brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as the Director of Finance and Group Chief Compliance Officer at Villa Shipping and Trading Company Pvt Ltd since November 2019.

Prior to this, he held the position of Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority from August 2010 to September 2019.

During his tenure at the Ministry of Finance, Zareer held various roles, including Chief Public Accounts Executive and Operations Manager of the Public Finance Reform Project.

He has also served on the Boards of several public and private companies, including Solarelle Insurance and the Maldives National Oil Company, where he served as chairman.

Zareer holds a Master of Science in Finance and a Bachelor of Accounting from the International Islamic University in Malaysia.

He is also a fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, United Kingdom, and a certified member of Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA), Australia.
