Minister of economic development and trade, Mohamed Saeed

In a promising statement, Minister of Economic Development, Mohamed Saeed, has expressed optimism that the prevailing challenges concerning the availability of dollars in the market will be addressed within the next 3-4 months.

Speaking to "Voice" before the opening of Maldives investment forum held in Dubai, The minister shed light on the root causes of the issue, emphasizing the mismanagement of sovereign development funds by the previous government.

A significant portion of the sovereign development funds, intended for debt repayment, was diverted by the previous administration, causing financial strain on the country.

The funds, which were supposed to contribute to debt reduction resulting from infrastructure projects, including the development of an airport, were not utilized as planned.

The delayed airport project, coupled with global turbulence sparked by the Middle East crisis and fluctuating oil prices, exacerbated the need for dollars, creating a complex economic situation.

Minister Saeed acknowledged the interdependence of the dollar, the market, and consumer dynamics.

The deliberate tying of dollar-based businesses to the black market has further complicated the situation, contributing to the existing challenges.

Despite these hurdles, Minister Saeed is confident that overcoming these issues is a priority for the government.

We are actively working on resolving the dollar issue, and we anticipate significant improvement within the next 3-4 months.

Stated Minister Saeed

While acknowledging the complexities of the situation, Minister Saeed reassured the public that the government is committed to resolving the dollar issue and restoring economic stability.

He urged support from citizens, emphasizing that the proposed measures will yield positive results in the coming months.

As the Maldivian government intensifies efforts to address the root causes of the dollar issue, Minister Saeed's optimism provides a glimmer of hope for a more stable economic future.

The next few months are poised to be critical, marking a potential turning point in overcoming the challenges that have plagued the nation's financial landscape.
