In a surprising turn of events just before the oath-taking ceremony, Ahmed Rishwan, who secured the position for Medhu Henveyru Dhaaira under the MDP ticket, has switched allegiance and signed up for the PNC.

The oath-taking ceremony for members and the Mayor elected in the January 13th by-election is scheduled for tonight.

Ahmed Rishwan submitted his affiliation change and PNC enrollment form to President Muizzu earlier today.

Notably, there are four vacant positions in the Male' City Council. The PNC secured two of these seats, while the opposition party MDP claimed two.

The PPM/PNC coalition secured Maafannu Dhekunu and Henveiru Dhekunu seats, while MDP clinched the Mayor seat with Adam Azim and the Medhu Henveyru seat.

Following Ahmed Rishwan's switch to the PNC, the PNC/PPM coalition extended a warm welcome to him today.

The unexpected move adds a dynamic element to the composition of the Male' City Council, shaping the political landscape in the capital.
