China has praised the agreements between Maldives and China for a comprehensive strategic partnership.

China's Commerce Ministry said Thursday it was ready to work with Maldives to implement the agreements reached between the two leaders. The agreements signed by both sides are expected to promote green development, investment in the digital and blue economy, and increase the level of economic and trade cooperation.

The two countries signed bilateral agreements on the 10th of this month. China's Commerce Ministry spokesman Shu Jueting also praised the new level of relations between Maldives and China.

From January to November 2023, the value of trade between China and the Maldives is estimated at around US$700 million. This is a 75.2% year-on-year growth since the beginning of China-Maldives friendship.

China is providing assistance to Maldives livelihood and infrastructure projects, while the number of Chinese companies investing in Maldives is increasing.

The China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, the expansion and renovation of the airport and some housing projects are also being carried out under Chinese assistance.

The President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is currently on a visit to China and is scheduled to sign a number of agreements with China. So far, he has signed a number of agreements on housing, health, infrastructure development and the economy. He is expected to return to Maldives today.
