We must pursue a foreign policy that maintains cordial relations with every nation without bias: Dr. Muizzu

The presidential candidate representing the opposition, Dr. Muizzu, who also is the current mayor of Male' City, has emphasized that ensuring the welfare of Maldivian citizens necessitates the alignment of the country's foreign policy with that of all other nations.

Dr. Muizzu made this statement during the inaugural press conference convened by the coalition's leadership subsequent to his securing of the opposition's presidential ticket.

When questioned by a journalist about Maldives' foreign policy and the presence of the Indian military, Dr. Muizzu highlighted that ensuring a peaceful and prosperous future, along with national development and citizen's rights, hinges on adopting a foreign policy that fosters positive relations with all nations.

"To create a peaceful and secure future, develop our nation, and protect our people's rights, we must follow a foreign policy that maintains good relationships with all countries."

Furthermore, Dr. Muizzu underscored that this foreign policy approach, previously employed during former President Yameen Abdul Gayoom's tenure, will persist during his own presidency.

He emphasized the commitment to treating all foreign nations impartially, without bias, and maintaining positive relationships with neighboring countries.

Addressing the presence of the Indian Military in Maldives, Dr. Muizzu stated that this is a widely recognized concern. He emphasized that the presence of any foreign military in Maldives should not compromise its sovereignty and freedom, and stressed the necessity for a resolution to this matter.
