President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated that decentralised service delivery remains a cornerstone of his Administration’s development agenda, ensuring that projects are designed and implemented in close partnership with local communities.

Speaking to residents of Kendhoo as part of his ongoing tour of Baa Atoll’s inhabited islands, President Muizzu stressed that genuine progress requires the President, Cabinet members, and institutional leaders to engage directly with the public.

This hands-on approach, he noted, reflects his government’s guiding philosophy of empowering communities through decentralisation.

Highlighting his own experiences with the system, President Muizzu said the benefits of decentralised governance are clear, particularly when unity and cooperation drive local progress.

He urged municipal leaders to put aside political divisions and work with the Government for the greater good, underlining the need for sincerity and trust in local governance.

The President also drew attention to recent legal amendments barring council-owned companies from operating small and micro businesses, a move aimed at safeguarding private entrepreneurs and ensuring fair opportunities for all.

During the Kendhoo visit, President Muizzu reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to delivering the 10 pledges made for the island’s full development, along with additional projects in health, education, and recreation.

He also announced new initiatives, including land reclamation, a harbour upgrade, and coastal protection works.

The visit marked the official inauguration of Kendhoo’s water and sewerage systems.

President Dr. Muizzu is currently on a four-day tour of Baa Atoll, during which he will visit all 13 inhabited islands, accompanied by several Ministers and senior government officials.
