Velana International Airport records over 4.1 Million passengers in first half of 2025

Velana International Airport handled 4,108,845 passengers in the first six months of 2025, marking a 4% increase compared to the same period last year, according to official statistics.

Of the total passenger movements, 2,669,969 were international travellers, 579,079 were domestic passengers, and 859,797 were seaplane passengers.

The airport also recorded its highest single-day passenger throughput on January 4, 2025, when 26,658 passengers travelled on wheel-based aircraft.

For seaplane operations, the peak was on February 16, 2025, with 7,439 passengers in a single day.

Air traffic movements for the first half of the year reached 124,665, reflecting a 7% year-on-year rise.

This included 17,614 international flights, 14,110 domestic flights, and 92,941 seaplane movements.

Velana International Airport remains the busiest airport in the region, with growing demand for both passenger and air traffic services.

The airport’s new terminal, inaugurated on July 26, is expected to significantly expand its capacity, enabling it to serve up to 7.5 million passengers annually.
