Ru'ya renews 100-meter national youth record
Maldivian sprinter Mariyam Ru'ya Ali has renewed the national youth record for the women's 100-meter race at the Asian Youth Athletics Tournament held in Kuwait.
The record was last held by Ru'ya as well. She set a junior record for 100-meter women in 12.53 seconds at the National Grand Prix.
Ru'ya set the record in 12.52 seconds in the heat of the Asia Tournament in Kuwait.
This is the third international competition Maldivian sprinter Mariyam Ru'ya Ali participated this year. However, Ru'ya did not participate in the Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkey after she sustained an injury while competing in the commonwealth Games in July.
In addition to Ru'ya, the other Maldivian athletes competing in the Junior Athletics Competition in Kuwait City are Hussain Zeek Suad, Ibrahim Nahil Nizar, Yoosuf Aisha Mohammed and Mohamed Minhal Shamin.
Ibrahim Nahil Nizar of Maldives finished fifth in the men's 100-meter race, with a timing of 11.18 seconds. Minhal, who ran in heat three came in sixth place with a timing of 11.07 seconds.
Athlete Aisha from Saeed Sports competed in the national squad in the 400m in two heats and finished seventh. Her time was recored at 54.49 seconds.
