A three-member delegation from the Maldivian Medical Traditional and Indigenous Practitioners' Association is taking part in an international forum on traditional medicine being held in Jiangxi, China from 15–19 September 2026.

The delegation is attending the SCO Forum on Traditional Medicine, organized by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) under the theme, “Empowering Traditional Medicine with Modern Technology to Co-build Human Health for All.”

The Maldives is represented at the forum by association President Mohamed Ahmed, Vice President Ibrahim Saleem, and Assistant Secretary General Anwar Naeem.

As part of their participation, the delegates visited The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, where they observed the hospital's operations and gained insight into its practices.

According to the association, the forum is intended to strengthen cooperation among SCO member countries in the field of traditional medicine and create opportunities for participating countries to share knowledge, experience and developments in traditional medicine sector.

The association said this marks the first participation by representatives of the Maldivian Medical Traditional and Indigenous Practitioners' Association in a traditional medicine meeting held in China.

The delegation's participation is also expected to provide opportunities to learn about Chinese traditional medicine and explore areas of mutual interest between Maldivian and Chinese practitioners.

The association said the forum could contribute to greater international recognition of Maldivian traditional medicine while helping establish stronger links with international organisations and countries working in the field.

The participation is being viewed by the association as an opportunity to expand international cooperation and position Maldivian traditional medicine practitioners to gain new insights on advancement and practices in countries with established traditions of traditional medicine.
