Maldives Immigration has withdrawn the measures taken against a Thai national who challenged her detention and alleged that her rights had not been protected during the process.

Kanakpon Thawongna, who previously worked at a salon in Malé, filed a judicial review case at the Civil Court against Immigration.

She challenged the actions taken against her following an operation conducted in December 2025.

According to the case documents, she was detained while preparing food with friends at the salon where she worked.

The salon was reportedly closed for renovations at the time.

She was taken into custody during the operation and held at the Hulhumalé Detention Center.

Immigration subsequently took steps to deport her from the Maldives on allegations that she was residing in the country unlawfully.

Kanakpon argued that Immigration had acted against her before her legal right to remain in the Maldives had been cancelled and without an established criminal offense.

She also claimed that she had been required to sign a statement despite being unable to read or write in English.

The case further alleged that neither her sponsor nor a translator was present when she was placed in detention.

Kanakpon asked the Civil Court to determine whether Immigration had failed to protect her legal rights during the process.

While the proceedings were ongoing, she requested that the case be withdrawn on August 12.

The request was made after Immigration rescinded the measures against her and she regained her freedom.

The Civil Court approved the withdrawal and closed the case on Monday.
