Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua has said major projects to modernize Malé’s road network and develop a new hospital in Villimalé are expected to begin by the end of this year or early next year.

Speaking at an event commemorating the 75th National Day of China, the Ambassador highlighted several major infrastructure projects completed in the Maldives with Chinese assistance, while noting that additional initiatives are currently being prepared.

The Ambassador said the modernization of Malé’s roads and the development of the Villimalé Hospital are among the major projects being carried out with Chinese aid.

According to the Ambassador, the design work for both projects is nearing completion, allowing preparations for construction to move forward.

Physical work on the projects is expected to commence toward the end of this year or in the early months of next year.

The Ambassadoralso highlighted the construction of council office buildings across several islands, noting that work on these administrative facilities is progressing rapidly.

The projects form part of China’s ongoing infrastructure cooperation with the Maldives, which has included support for several major development initiatives across the country.
