This government has bankrupted the state-owned enterprises: Thariq
Former environment minister, Thoriq Ibrahim, has stated that the current MDP government has bankrupted the state-owned enterprises.
He stated this regarding the sale of Afcons Infrastructure Ltd; the company in charge of Thilamale' bridge and Addu City road development. According to Indian news sources , Afcons is being sold by it's parents company Shapoorji Pallonji (SP) to cover their severe debt.
In a tweet today Thoriq stated that the current MDP government has put it's companies into debt and bankrupted them in a similar fashion to Afcons. And that if this government is elected for an additional 5 years, they would sell all the Maldivian state-owned enterprises in a similar fashion.
Some members of MDP’s 'Fikuregge Dhirun’ faction has also expressed concerns regarding the increase in debt of state-owned companies.
Hussain Amru, who was recently dismissed from his position as STO’s Managing Director, stated that the Fenaka corporation's debt was so deep that selling all of it's assets would not cover it's liabilities.
