Deputy leader of MDP, Mohamed Shifaz has been dismissed from his post as the minister of President’s Office, with Ibrahim Waheed (Iburey) assuming his position instead today.

Shiyaz was appointed for his post as the minister of President's Office after incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was elected in 2018.

He has been playing a lead role in supporting his close ally, the Parliament Speaker and MDP's leader Mohamed Nasheed.

During MDP's primary held in January, he played a huge role in campaigning for Nasheed and has been active in the activities of the faction 'Fikurehge Dhirun', created after Nasheed's unsuccess in the primary.

Shifaz was replaced by MDP's deputy chairperson Ibrahim Waheed, a member of the current government's faction and a close ally of President Solih. He was active as a campaign manager for electing Minister Fayyaz Ismail to MDP's chairperson position.

In addition to Shifaz, Hussain Amru, another close ally of Speaker Nasheed, was recently dismissed from his position as the managing director of STO.
