Maldives has strongly condemned the attempted drone attacks targeting oil facilities in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province and the capital, Riyadh, describing the incidents as a serious threat to regional peace and stability.

In a statement, released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government denounced the attacks as a violation of Saudi Arabia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

It said such actions undermine regional security and pose risks to stability in the wider Middle East.

The statement came after Saudi Arabia reported intercepting drones targeting oil infrastructure in the Eastern Province and Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Kingdom reserves the right to respond to the attacks, which it attributed to Iran-backed armed groups operating in Iraq.

The government reaffirmed its solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and expressed its continued support for the Saudi government and its people in the face of security threats.

The Maldives also backed Saudi Arabia's efforts to protect its sovereignty, national security, and territorial integrity, emphasizing its support for measures aimed at safeguarding the country against such attacks.

The statement reflects the close bilateral relationship between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia, with the Maldives consistently expressing support for the Kingdom on matters related to regional security and international peace.
