President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the Maldives’ national security services, describing the continued development of the country’s police and defense institutions as a national responsibility.

Speaking at the official ceremony marking the 93rd anniversary of the Maldives Police Service on Sunday evening, the President said the police play a vital role in maintaining public order, protecting communities, and ensuring national security.

He also recognized the dedication and sacrifices made by police officers and their families in serving the country.

The President said the government will continue supporting the Police Service through legislative reforms, modern technology, and improved training to strengthen policing across the Maldives.

As part of these efforts, he announced plans to establish an additional police service center and a new police headquarters in the Greater Malé area.

He also said the Police Training Center in Dh. Vaanee will be upgraded into a modern training facility, while ongoing projects to build dedicated police facilities across the country are expected to be completed next year.

The President also highlighted the important contributions of police officers, noting that much of their work takes place behind the scenes but continues to benefit communities across the country.

He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of police officers and their families through expanded housing opportunities and other support programs.

During the ceremony, President Dr. Muizzu presented the President’s Medal and President’s Ribbon to officers in recognition of outstanding service.

Long-serving police officers were also honored with commemorative plaques for their dedication to the institution and the nation.

The event was attended by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, senior government officials, heads of state institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, and senior police leadership.

The Maldives Police Service officially marked its 93rd anniversary on March 29.
