Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has signed a series of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with three national agencies to strengthen disaster preparedness and emergency response at Velana International Airport (VIA).

The agreements were signed with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the Maldives Meteorological Service, and the Maldives Red Crescent (MRC).

The partnerships are intended to improve coordination in responding to a wide range of emergencies, including natural disasters and aviation-related incidents.

The signing ceremony was attended by MACL Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, State Minister for Environment Ibrahim Mimrah, senior MACL officials, and representatives from the participating agencies.

Under the agreements, the organizations will work together through clearly defined responsibilities, joint training programs, and regular emergency drills.

The MoUs also establish a structured communication system that will enable real-time information sharing between MACL, weather authorities, and emergency response agencies.

The new framework is expected to improve coordination during emergencies, reduce response times, and strengthen the airport's ability to manage unexpected situations.

MACL said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to maintaining Velana International Airport as a safe, resilient, and well-prepared gateway for travelers.
