Man arrested in Malé for alleged drug trafficking

Police have arrested a 27-year-old man in Malé on suspicion of possessing, using, and trafficking illicit drugs following a targeted anti-narcotics operation.

The suspect was identified as Saajid Abdul Muhaimin of V. Felidhoo Anbugasdhoshuge.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the arrest was made during a joint operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence on the 24th of this month.

Police said officers stopped and searched the suspect on a street in Malé, where they recovered substances believed to be illicit narcotics with a preliminary weight of 51.30 grams.

Following his arrest, Sajid was brought before the court for a remand hearing.

The court ordered that he be held in custody for 30 days while the investigation continues.

Authorities said the case remains under investigation as police work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the alleged drug offenses.
