Maldives and U.S. explore new areas of partnership

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with Paul Kapur, the United States Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, during a courtesy call at the President’s Office on Thursday.

The meeting focused on strengthening relations between the Maldives and the United States as the two countries mark 60 years of diplomatic ties this year.

Both sides reflected on the longstanding partnership and explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in areas of shared interest.

Discussions centered on enhancing collaboration in economic development, investment, and maritime security.

The U.S. delegation expressed interest in expanding engagement with the Maldives and strengthening cooperation across key sectors.

President Dr. Muizzu highlighted the Maldives’ commitment to pursuing development opportunities that support national growth and economic diversification.

He also reaffirmed the government's willingness to work with international partners on initiatives that deliver tangible benefits to the country and its people.

The meeting comes as the Maldives and the United States continue to strengthen their relationship through cooperation on regional and global issues, as well as development-focused partnerships.
