The services related to issue of license for land vehicles have been brought to a temporary stop.

The transport ministry stated that they were working on a new software to increase convenience for customers and that one of the services included under the software relates to issue of license for land vehicles.

In order to roll out the new software they had to work on data migration and thus the services related to this section is going to be temporarily stopped from 29th January 2023 to 04th January 2023.

In relation to this the ministry also informed that to reduce any issues with expired licenses during the ongoing work to digitize the system, they are working with the police to allow the usage of expired licenses till the 14th of next month.

With the introduction of the new software all the services provided by the ministry including issuing of license will be done digitally.  As a result, the services would be faster and up to date and the service quality will improve.

For instance, customers will be able to fill out all the forms to apply for license digitally and can upload their picture digitally as well, eliminating the need for any paperwork.

Consequently, costs are expected to reduce including the cost incurred for printing the license card as digital license cards will be issued under the new services. These cards will be made available through an application and will be showed on phone screens.

However, there will still be an opportunity for customers to print the license card if they choose to do so.

They highlighted that the current software they were working would include all services that the ministry provides, in addition to license related services. Previously they had 7 software’s to provide all the services but now all services will be combined into one main software. The provision of the new digitized services won’t be limited to male’ city and would also apply to islands.
