Maldives Customs Service has seized more than 11 kilograms of illegal drugs that were being smuggled into the country by air on March 20.

According to customs officials, the confiscated substances included over five kilograms of cannabis leaves and approximately 6.5 kilograms of hash oil.

The authorities estimated the street value of the seized drugs to exceed MVR 9.6 million.

Customs said the operation successfully intercepted the shipment before it could enter circulation.
