Indian national arrested at Gan airport with two kilograms of drugs
An Indian national has been arrested at Gan International Airport after authorities seized approximately two kilograms of suspected drugs from his possession.
Police identified the suspect as 58-year-old Saldin Wali Mohammed Rufin.
He was taken into custody on March 17 following an inspection carried out by the Maldives Customs Service at the airport.
According to officials, Customs officers stopped the passenger upon arrival and conducted a thorough search, during which the illicit substances were discovered concealed within his belongings.
He was subsequently handed over to the Maldives Police Service and later arrested under a court order.
Authorities have classified the case as a serious narcotics offence.
However, details regarding the type of drugs involved and the suspect’s travel route have not yet been disclosed, as investigations remain ongoing.
Officials have also observed a rising trend in drug-related arrests involving expatriates in recent months.
In a separate incident last month, nine foreign nationals were detained in connection with a large-scale drug bust, raising concerns about the presence of trafficking networks operating through the Maldives.
