Two-month deadline set to switch EV number plates to green
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (Maldives) has announced a two month deadline for electric vehicle owners to replace their existing number plates with newly designated green plates.
The directive was published in the Government Gazette as part of revised regulations governing land vehicle registration.
Under Section 7 of the updated regulations, all electric vehicles are required to adopt the new color coded system within the stipulated timeframe.
Electric vehicles are defined in the regulation as those powered by batteries or electric motors, rather than conventional petrol or diesel engines.
According to the new guidelines, vehicles registered for commercial use must display yellow lettering on green plates, while those registered for personal use will carry white lettering on green plates.
