Tragic Dhigurah fire: Rescuers had to breach walls for trapped expats

Maldives Police revealed today that police and locals were forced to break through walls to reach seven unconscious Bangladeshi expatriates trapped in a blazing accommodation block in ADh. Dhigurah during last night's horrific fire.

The emergency call came in at 1:57 AM, with responders arriving to find flames erupting from the kitchen.

In a desperate joint effort, police and Dhigurah residents breached the back wall, discovering seven victims overcome by smoke. 

Five men were tragically pronounced dead at the island health center, while two others suffering severe smoke inhalation were transferred to Male' for critical care.

Police confirmed all victims were Bangladeshi nationals. 

One additional resident, mentally traumatized by the ordeal, received treatment locally. 

The fire was contained by 2:30 AM through community teamwork, with the site now cordoned off for investigation.

A Major Crime Investigations team has arrived for forensic analysis to pinpoint the blaze's cause. 

IGMH reports the two survivors remain on ventilator support in serious condition.

Police thanked Dhigurah residents for their heroic assistance in rescue and containment efforts.
