The man's body discovered dead in the swimming track of Addu City's Hithadhoo has now been identified.

The deceased has now been identified as 60-year-old Australian national Daniel Di Giovanni.

He had been living in the Maldives on a work visa.

Initially reported as an unidentified foreign national, the Maldives Police Service confirmed Di Giovanni's identity after the incident was reported at 4:41 PM on March 13. 

His body was recovered and transported to Addu Equatorial Hospital for examination.

Maldives Police are conducting further investigations to uncover how the tragedy unfolded.
