Voting begins in the highly-anticipated MDP Presidential Primary

Voting for presidential primary has begun in order to decide who will be taking Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s ticket.

The voting began today at 9 am and will continue till 5pm.

A total of 283 ballot boxes have been place in every inhabited island. Out of these 87 boxes have been placed within Male’ city while the rest of the 196 boxes have been placed in atoll islands.

These boxes have been stationed in schools in both male and the islands. It has also been made possible for voters to check the location of ballot boxes via SMS.

The election which kicked off after an eventful campaign consists of two candidates; Incumbent president and one of the leaders of MDP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the speaker of the parliament and MDP’s president Mohamed Nasheed.

Observers of the political environment has stated that everyone’s interest has been turned towards this election and that there will be significant changes to MDP once the election is over.
