President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the current administration remains the most committed government in the Maldives to advancing and empowering women.

He made the remarks while addressing a ceremony organised by the People’s National Congress on Saturday evening to launch the Greater Addu Vision initiative.

During his speech, the President also extended greetings and best wishes to Maldivian women on the occasion of International Women’s Day, observed today.

Highlighting the administration’s policies, President Muizzu said the government’s dedication to women’s development has been demonstrated through concrete actions and measurable outcomes.

He pointed to reforms introduced to strengthen Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) nationwide.

As part of these reforms, the President noted that the government facilitated legal amendments enabling WDC members to receive the Ramadan allowance.

He also emphasised that the administration had transformed the role of WDC President into a full-time executive position elected directly by the public.

President Muizzu further stated that the government had increased financial support for Women’s Development Committees by raising their budget allocation from five percent to ten percent of local council budgets.

He clarified that Ramadan allowances for committee members would be funded from the council’s general budget rather than being deducted from the newly increased allocation.

He also highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting women’s economic participation, including loan schemes and other support programmes.

In addition, President Muizzu said several projects focused on advancing women’s development are scheduled to be implemented this year, as outlined in his Presidential Address.

Reaffirming the administration’s priorities, President Muizzu stressed that integrating women’s empowerment into national policy remains a key objective of his government and pledged to continue implementing initiatives that support women’s advancement across the country.
