The Government of the Republic of Maldives has expressed deep concern over the recent escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, urging all parties involved to immediately de-escalate tensions and restore stability to the region.

In a statement issued on 28 February 2026, the government strongly condemned attacks carried out by all sides and called for an end to further violence.

It emphasised the urgent need to prioritise peace and prevent the situation from deteriorating further.

The Maldives further called on all parties to act in full accordance with international law and their obligations under the United Nations Charter.

The statement underscored that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected at all times.

Reaffirming its longstanding foreign policy principles, the government highlighted its continued commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes and stressed the importance of collective international efforts to safeguard both regional and global peace and stability.

The statement concluded with a renewed appeal for calm and responsible engagement to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.

The latest escalation in the Middle East began on 28 February 2026 when the United States and Israel launched coordinated military strikes against multiple targets in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran responded within hours by firing missiles toward Israel and launching operations against U.S. military assets hosted in Gulf countries such as Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, leading to explosions and heightened alerts across the region.
