President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the Secretary General of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD), Sheikh Yousef Hassan Khalawi, have held discussions on strengthening investment and cooperation in the halal business and tourism sectors.

The meeting took place at the President’s Office and focused on expanding cooperation in areas related to the Islamic economy, capacity-building, investment, halal businesses, and tourism.

The two sides also discussed opportunities to further develop halal tourism and explore ways to strengthen the Maldives' participation in the growing global halal economy.

During the meeting, Sheikh Khalawi presented President Dr. Muizzu with a handwritten copy of the Holy Qur’an.

The ICCD is an international organization operating under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

It represents private-sector businesses and entrepreneurs from 57 Muslim countries and works to promote stronger economic, trade, and industrial cooperation among member states.

Previously known as the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, the organization was established in 1977.

Its work includes promoting investment, supporting the development of the halal economy, strengthening trade ties, and assisting small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Maldives is represented within the organization through the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI).

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts to explore new economic opportunities and strengthen international partnerships, particularly in sectors connected to Islamic finance, halal businesses, tourism, and private-sector development.
