A 60-year-old Maldivian man has been taken into custody in Hulhumalé following his arrest on suspicion of drug possession, according to a statement by the Maldives Police Service.

The suspect, identified as Ahmed Afeef of H. Meadowsweet, was apprehended by officers near Flat No. 10 in Hulhumalé. 

Law enforcement personnel reportedly approached Afeef after observing behavior they deemed suspicious.

Upon being confronted, Afeef allegedly attempted to flee and was seen discarding several items. 

Officers subsequently recovered five rubber packets from the scene and on his person, believed to contain illicit substances. 

However, police have not yet revealed the nature or quantity of the suspected drugs.

Afeef was presented before the court and has been remanded in custody for a period of 10 days while investigations continue.
