President Dr. Muizzu highlights unity of small Island nations in message to Samoa

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended warm greetings to the Government and people of Samoa on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day, underscoring the shared challenges and aspirations of small island developing states like the Maldives and Samoa.

In messages sent to the Head of State of Samoa, Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II, and Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa, President Muizzu conveyed the heartfelt congratulations of the Government and the people of the Maldives.

He also took to his official X account to commemorate the occasion.

In his post, the President reflected on the significance of Samoa’s Independence Day as a powerful reminder of a nation’s determination to protect its freedom, preserve its sovereignty, and steer a path toward sustainable development for future generations.

He further noted the unique challenges faced by small island nations and emphasized the potential for enhanced bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the Maldives and Samoa to address these issues collectively.

As small island developing states, the Maldives and Samoa have shared challenges on which I am confident we can elevate our cooperation to find shared solutions bilaterally, as well as on multilateral platforms of converging interests.

He wrote

Concluding his letters, President Muizzu extended his best wishes for the continued good health and happiness of Samoa’s leaders and for the peace, progress, and prosperity of the Samoan people.
