Minister Ameen denies link to roof fall incident, says no role in influencing probe

Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen has denied any personal involvement in the incident where a 21-year-old woman, fell onto the roof of a house in Male’ City on April 18.

In a statement on social media platform X, Ameen expressed concern for the young woman and responded to speculation over his connection to the case.

First, my heart goes out to the 21-year-old young woman who is battling for survival, and I pray for her full and quick recovery,

He posted

Clarifying the circumstances, Ameen said that while a gathering had taken place early Friday morning (April 18) in the building where he resides, it did not occur inside his own apartment.

He explained that the property is jointly owned with his three siblings.

This is not a building I personally own and is owned jointly with my three siblings. This did not take place within the confines of my home or apartment, I, for one, had no knowledge or idea of this gathering and cannot control what goes on outside my home or apartment.

 he wrote.

Minister Ameen revealed that two of his nephews were among those questioned by authorities regarding the incident.

He added that he only became aware of the matter on the evening of April 18.

Responding to social media claims that he may have tried to influence the investigation, Ameen categorically denied making any contact with law enforcement officials.

I do not hold any mandate in Government pertaining to law enforcement or investigation. To this date, I have not made a single phone call or contacted a single person within law enforcement or the Government or anybody else to obtain updates on the investigation or to influence any investigation whatsoever,Social media posts to the contrary are completely baseless and false.

He added

Police have confirmed that the woman and a man who was with her that night tested positive for drugs.

CCTV footage captured the pair roaming inside a building in central Male’ before the fall, though the moment of the fall was not caught on camera.

The investigation is still ongoing.

The man accompanying the woman remains under a no-fly order, though no arrests have been made.
