MVR 500,000 from Maldives’ Zakat fund allocated for Gaza food aid

The Maldives has announced a donation of MVR 500,000 from its Zakat Fund to provide food assistance to children in Gaza.

Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed made the announcement on Saturday night, stating,

God willing, five lakh rufiyaa will be donated to the food of the children of Gaza, Palestine

This contribution underscores the Maldives' ongoing commitment to supporting the Palestinian people.

Maldives remains one of the most significant donors to Palestine, with Maldivians consistently voicing strong support for the Palestinian cause.

In recent months, the Maldives has demonstrated its solidarity through various initiatives.

In the ongoing genocide on Gaza, death toll in has surpassed 50,000 since Israel launched its genocide in October 2023, according to health officials.

The Gaza Ministry of Health reported last week that at least 50,021 Palestinians have been killed and 113,274 wounded since the attacks began in response to an October 7, 2023.
