HA. Kelaa jurisdiction amended to facilitate resort development
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has designated 325.5 hectares from the lagoon of Haa Alifu Kelaa Island for the development of two resorts, aligning with his administration's commitments to boost tourism and economic growth.
The decision was formalized through Presidential Decree No. 07/2025, issued on Saturday, which amends the jurisdiction of Kelaa Island.
The amendment, made under Section 56-1(a) of the Decentralization Act (Act No. 07/2010), grants the President the authority to allocate land for City and Island Councils.
As part of this initiative, an updated jurisdictional chart of Kelaa Island has been codified and officially published in the Government Gazette.
President Dr. Muizzu previously visited HA. Kelaa on February 25, 2024, where he reiterated his commitment to the project, emphasizing its significance for the local community.
The initiative is expected to enhance economic opportunities for residents of Kelaa and neighboring islands.
