Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has registered information on more than 100,000 foreigners under Operation Kurangi, a nationwide initiative to address the issue of illegal immigration.

According to the latest update from the ministry, over 65,000 of those 100,000 surveyed were residing in the Malé area.

Authorities have urged all remaining foreigners who have yet to submit their details to do so before the deadline on the 30th of this month.

The deportation of undocumented immigrants will commence after this date.

The ministry revealed that approximately 40,000 foreigners had been documented over the past five years, and stated that the issue of undocumented foreign workers has escalated due to the lack of effective measures by previous administrations.

Operation Kurangi aims to provide a long-term solution to the country’s immigration challenges.

Upon its completion, the government plans to ease existing restrictions on hiring and bringing in foreign workers, streamlining the process for legal employment.
