The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) Maldives, has introduced two key guidelines aimed at enhancing the efficiency of health workers during emergencies.

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Protocol and the Mass Casualty Management (MCM) Guidelines were officially launched today by Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and WHO Maldives Representative Ms. Payden at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Health.

These newly introduced guidelines provide detailed instructions on how health workers should respond to emergency situations in the Maldives.

They address the critical need for a structured approach in managing medical emergencies and mass casualty incidents (MCIs), filling a gap left by previous national emergency plans.

Although the National Emergency Operation Plan (NEOP) and the Health Emergency Operational Plan (HEOP) had been established earlier, the Ministry of Health acknowledged that specific strategies for handling mass casualty incidents had not been formulated until now.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that the proper implementation of these guidelines is expected to save numerous lives and mitigate potential damage during emergencies.

They serve as essential resources for the health sector, ensuring a more coordinated and effective emergency response across the Maldives.
