Government intensifies efforts to address illegal immigration, recovers MVR 1.1 Billion
The Maldivian government has recovered MVR 1.1 billion related to foreign workers in the country, according to Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusaan.
Speaking during the "Presidential Statement 2025 Forum" aired by Public Service Media (PSM), Minister Ihusaan highlighted that the total amount expected to be collected stands at MVR 1.8 billion.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to regulate foreign employment and address issues related to undocumented workers.
The minister further noted that the government is actively identifying illegal immigrants and gathering data on foreign workers to tackle immigration challenges.
As part of this effort, Operation Karangi has successfully recorded the biometric data of more than 44,000 foreign nationals to date.
