President Dr. Muizzu to make historic first visit to Estonia
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is set to make an official visit to the Republic of Estonia from January 13th to16th, at the invitation of Estonian President Dr Alar Karis.
This marks the first visit by a Maldivian President to Estonia, reflecting the growing importance of fostering stronger bilateral ties between the two nations.
The visit will focus on exploring opportunities for collaboration in areas such as digital transformation, cyber and e-governance, climate action, environmental sustainability, and science and education.
President Dr. Muizzu’s delegation will include Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, and other senior officials, alongside representatives from the local technology sector.
During his stay, President Dr. Muizzu will meet with Estonian President Dr Karis, President of the Estonian Parliament Lauri Hussar, and several cabinet members, including Minister of Education and Research Kristina Kallas, Minister of Climate Yoko Alender, Minister of Health Riina Sikut, and Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs Liisa-Ly Pakosta. Additionally, he will hold discussions with Jonatan Vseviov, Secretary General of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A key highlight of the visit will be a trip to the city of Tartu, Estonia’s second-largest city and home to the prestigious University of Tartu.
There, the President will tour the university, visit its Genome Database Centre, and explore the Greenergy Data Centre.
President Dr. Muizzu will also participate in a roundtable discussion organized by Estonia’s Digital Advisory Council, where he will delve into Estonia’s advancements in digital governance, e-residency, and public sector innovations.
President Dr. Muizzu's administration aims to establish a digital economy contributing 15% of Maldives' GDP by 2030 through a Digital Transformation Roadmap, an AI Readiness Masterplan with UNESCO, and technology-driven governance strategies.
The visit aims to strengthen Maldives-Estonia relations and provide a platform for knowledge exchange in technological innovation, digital transformation, and sustainability efforts.
