Maldives secures world's leading destination award for fifth year
Maldives has been named the World's Leading Destination for the fifth consecutive year at the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA) 2024.
The nation also earned the World's Leading Green Destination title, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly tourism.
The awards were presented during a ceremony held in Mérida, Portugal, with Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal accepting the accolades on behalf of the Maldives.

The Maldives has enjoyed a successful year in tourism, having earlier claimed several honors in the Indian Ocean category at the WTA 2024 ceremony held during the Arabian Travel Market (ATM).
These accolades included Leading Destination, Leading Honeymoon Destination, Leading Green Destination, and Leading Dive Destination awards for the region.
First established in 1993, the World Travel Awards celebrates excellence across all sectors of the global tourism industry and is widely regarded as one of the most distinguished accolades in the field.
