President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to establish a fund called the "National Sports Fund."

The aim of this fund is to increase the number of Maldivian players and athletes, promote and develop sports and empower Maldivian sports community or sports family.

The President made the decision following discussions at the Cabinet meeting on November 4, 2024, with the advice of the Cabinet.

The President’s Office said the President decided to set up the fund in the light of discussions in the Cabinet on Monday on a proposal made by the Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation.

The Cabinet also decided to take all necessary steps to bring about the necessary changes to the Sports Act of Maldives regarding the establishment of the National Sports Fund.
