BML begins accepting RuPay cards at all ATMs and POS terminals
The Bank of Maldives (BML) has officially started accepting RuPay cards at its ATMs and Point of Sale (POS) terminals, coinciding with the recent launch of RuPay services in the Maldives.
This development marks a significant milestone in the country’s payment systems, especially for Indian tourists.
The announcement follows the RuPay launch during joint press conference held earlier today between Maldives and India governments where both President Dr. Muizzu and India PM Narendra Modi spoke.
The first transaction using the RuPay service occurred at an Authentic Maldives store, signaling a new era of financial accessibility for Indian visitors.
Moosa Nimal, BML’s Director of Retail, Business and SME Banking, expressed excitement about the partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
We are delighted to partner with NPCI to facilitate the acceptance of RuPay cards in the Maldives. RuPay has made a significant impact on the retail payment systems in India, and with its acceptance at Bank of Maldives, payments for RuPay users have now become easier than ever.
He stated
BML operates an extensive network of 39 branches across all 20 atolls, along with 88 Self Service Banking Centres and 143 ATMs, committed to providing convenient banking solutions for individuals, businesses, and communities throughout the Maldives.
The addition of RuPay cards to its offerings further solidifies BML's dedication to enhancing digital payment systems and supporting economic growth in the region.
