President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his administration’s focus on accountability, transparency and good governance during a meeting with heads of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) from Small Island Developing States and international delegates in AA. Ukulhas.

The meeting followed the closing of the 2026 SIDS-SAIs Symposium and the opening of the INTOSAI Development Initiative Global Summit, bringing together senior audit officials and international representatives to discuss strengthening public oversight.

International delegates praised the Maldives for hosting the summit and promoting the interests of SIDS in global discussions on public accountability.

They also recognized the participation of Cabinet ministers and senior officials as an indication of political support for stronger oversight mechanisms.

President Dr. Muizzu highlighted ongoing legislative and institutional reforms aimed at preventing unlawful practices and strengthening safeguards against corruption.

He said these efforts form part of the administration’s broader commitment to improving governance and institutional effectiveness.

The President also outlined the Maldives 2.0 initiative, under which the government aims to fully digitalize public services within two years.

He said the administration is developing stronger legal frameworks while drawing on international experience, including Estonia’s digital governance model.

President Dr. Muizzu thanked Auditor General Hussain Niyazy and the Auditor General’s Office for organizing the summit in Ukulhas, which also provided visiting delegates with an opportunity to experience Maldivian culture and island hospitality.

The meeting was attended by representatives from INTOSAI, IDI and the United Nations, along with heads of SAIs from several SIDS.
