Maldives has recorded 13 new measles cases in the Greater Malé Region over the past week, bringing the total number of confirmed cases reported nationwide this year to 199, according to the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

The latest figures come as health authorities continue efforts to contain the outbreak through vaccination and public health measures.

So far, 12,971 people have received measles vaccinations as part of the ongoing immunization campaign.

The HPA is urging people who develop symptoms associated with measles, particularly a fever accompanied by a red rash, to seek medical attention promptly.

Individuals seeking medical care for suspected measles are advised to wear a mask and avoid public transportation to reduce the risk of transmitting the infection to others.

People undergoing testing for suspected measles should remain isolated until their test results are confirmed, the agency said.

Those experiencing symptoms are also advised to remain at home and avoid public gatherings while they recover or await medical assessment.

The health authorities have further encouraged the public to obtain information about the outbreak from official sources and follow the latest guidance issued by health agencies.

The continued increase in confirmed cases highlights the importance of vaccination, early recognition of symptoms and measures to limit contact with others while infection is suspected.
