President Dr. Muizzu urges greater iInvestment in transparency and accountability
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called for continued investment in integrity, accountability, transparency, innovation and partnerships, saying these principles are essential to building stronger and more resilient states.
President Dr. Muizzu made the remarks while closing the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) Symposium and opening the INTOSAI Development Initiative Global Summit in Ukulhas, North Ari Atoll.
The President emphasized that resilient nations depend on strong institutions, responsible fiscal management and transparent governance that maintains public confidence.
He highlighted the role of Supreme Audit Institutions in ensuring public resources are properly managed and used for their intended purposes.
Addressing the particular challenges faced by SIDS, President Dr. Muizzu noted that governments must simultaneously manage debt, respond to emergencies, protect vulnerable communities and maintain economic growth.
He said the Maldives remains committed to meeting its financial obligations while continuing to invest in national development despite global economic uncertainty and external pressures.
The President also identified digital transformation as an opportunity for small island nations to overcome geographical and capacity-related limitations.
He highlighted the government's Maldives 2.0 vision, which aims to create a modern, citizen-focused digital state.
President Dr. Muizzu said technology should be viewed not only as an innovation tool but also as a means of strengthening governance, development and national resilience.
During the ceremony, the President launched the Auditor General's Office Strategic Plan 2026–2029.
The symposium brought together Supreme Audit Institutions from SIDS to exchange expertise and strengthen institutional capacity in support of the Sustainable Development Goals.
