MET Office warns of stormy weather across the Maldives this week

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a forecast of stormy weather across much of the country this week, with the Southwest Monsoon currently active in the region.

Strong winds ranging from 15-25 miles per hour are expected in the northern areas, while the southern region will see winds between 13-23 miles per hour.

Gusts of up to 45-55 miles per hour are anticipated over the next five days.

Alongside strong winds, rough seas, surge waves, and heavy showers with thunderstorms are predicted throughout the country.

The MET Office has urged the public, especially seafarers, to exercise caution and stay informed with updated weather reports before embarking on any sea travel.

A yellow alert has also been issued from Haa Alif Atoll to Laamu Atoll until 15:00 hrs this evening, warning of winds up to 30 miles per hour and gusts of 45 miles per hour, with very rough sea conditions expected in the region.
